Businesses across the world are impacted by this global pandemic where the majority of big companies and small businesses closed and stopped their operations during the COVID-19 lockdown to lessen the spread of the virus and to prioritize the health of their employees and customers.

Today, business owners think of ways on how to cope with the “new normal” as they reopen their services. With this pandemic that the world is still facing, it is necessary to prioritize the safety and health of your customers and employees.  

During these trying times, businesses must evaluate their action plans on how they can adapt to the new norm and the changing market.

Here are some tips and guidelines you can follow in getting your business ready:

  • Always disinfect the workplace and make a detailed cleaning checklist

Research shows that COVID-19 virus remains for several hours to days on surfaces. Moreover, the contamination on surfaces touched by customers and employees is one of the main ways that COVID-19 spreads.

Creating a daily cleaning schedule with a detailed cleaning checklist for your staff is essential. It is also important that the staff assigned in cleaning should wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as disposable gloves and aprons.

It is necessary to intensify the cleaning and disinfection in the workplace especially frequently touched surfaces which include the following:

  • Door handles
  • Tabletops
  • Light switches
  • Telephone
  • Desks
  • Keyboards
  • Toilets
  • Taps
  • EFTPOS machines
  • Touch Screens
  • Handrails

You can use soap and water or detergent for cleaning surfaces to reduce the number of germs and dirt, then use disinfectant to kill germs. After cleaning, remind the cleaning staff to wash hands with soap and water after removing gloves.

 

  • Decide who needs to come back to work and plan their schedule

In reopening your business, you should consider how many staff needs to work and what will be their new working schedule. Review if your staff must be in full-time, part-time, or casual working schedule.

  • Consider your resources and supply chain

You need to strengthen your supply chain and resources to meet your customers’ demands by having an action plan to prevent problems and apply solutions. Think of ways on how to provide your services and products to your customers conveniently like having delivery options.

Before reopening, think carefully of all the resources that you need, from your capital to all the materials needed in running your business. You can have a team meeting with your staff so they can also give ideas and suggestions on how you can safely reopen your business. It is also essential to contact your suppliers to fix safe delivery arrangements and payment terms.

 

  • Implement Safety Precautions in the Workplace

It is advised that employers must provide safety precautions to make the workplace safe.  You can provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for your staff to protect them and prevent them from contracting the virus.  

You also must have handheld infrared thermometers to quickly check the body temperature of your employees and customers before allowing them to enter. In addition, look at the crowd flow in the workplace and consider one-way entrances and exits.
