It is a known fact that almonds are quite rich in unsaturated fats. It is also known that unsaturated fats lower HDL levels and increase LDL levels. The unsaturated fats in almonds also reduces LDL from getting oxidized. This is quite advantageous since oxidized LDL can clog up the arteries and block blood flow to these areas. It is evident that consuming almonds is great for keeping the heart healthy.
HDL molecules initially form as tiny molecules which gradually balloon in size as they circulate about the blood stream cleaning up the bad cholesterol. Studies conducted on individuals who consume almonds show that their HDL function improved by a factor as high as 6.4%.
Despite their obvious advantages, almonds should be consumed in small portions since they are high in calories.
